Fragments OF MEMORY

Chapter 5
>Fragments of Memory

<GIRL> I know you. You were used too.
>GIRL twirls in a circle beaming with joy as her feet lightly dance on the dirty carpet. She dances towards the cassette player on the other side of the room.
<GIRL> They never loved you. And I know that. I know that better than anyone.
>She comes to a sudden stop and pats the outside of her pockets searching for something.

<MAN> She refused to open her heart out to herself.
>MAN takes a seat on the stone bench next to a young girl waiting for her father.
<MAN> I didn’t understand that then, but being here… meeting people like you and your family… I… I get it now.
>MAN lightly chuckles as he looks in the distance and sees the young girl's father waving at the two with a proud smile.

[M] - Cassette Mix
<GIRL> When we die, we can free our souls from here.
>GIRL clicks the open button on the cassette player and drops a strange looking cassette in.
<GIRL> We can go far, far away from here and live among the stars.
>The static of the cassette tape plays.

<MAN> I lived out there. Far, far away among the stars.
>The young girl looks confused but intrigued by what MAN is saying.
<MAN> She was right all along, and deep down I resent that. It was all in the past and it could’ve been the present, but… but…
>MAN drops his head as he tries to recollect himself for the interaction with the young girl's father. The young girl looks at him even more confused, but quickly moves on as her father draws near.

>As the song starts up the gleeful movements of the girl slowed down as she danced along.
<GIRL> We had good times together, don’t forget that.
>She sways side to side slowly as she dances towards the bed.

[ YEARS IN THE FUTURE … BUT WHO KNOWS HOW MANY ]

>It has been approximately 17 universal hours since our two COSMIC ANGELS marked the planet of DV5T8-0W1 as GOOD. This is the equivalent of 1 DAY AND 4 HOURS for you.
>In that time frame, we can tell our two angels are glad to be back in the COMFORT of their home. …or… so we thought…
>Do we really want to bother that freak on the right? He looks extremely desperate for attention.
>Let's ignore him! Instead, let’s properly meet everyone's favorite angel.

>OH YEAH! No main characters in this chapter because now it’s all about VAL! Hell, she might as well be because with her HEART OF GOLD and CONSTANT LEADERSHIP, Val is the only reason anything gets done around here.
>Because of this forced responsibility, you always felt like you were forced to MATURE. This has given you a major sense of CONFUSION and UNCERTAINTY when trying to be LOGICAL. You always try to be REASONABLE, but the world is too complicated for an innocent kid like you.
>With all that anger and hate constantly surrounding you, you try to keep your composure and remain LEVEL HEADED. You may not be doing a good job from the perspective of others, but to you, this is good enough. As long as you GET THE JOB DONE and SURVIVE.

[M] - Updated STARNET Feed
>We’ve seen it before, but you find COMFORT in burying your face in your MOBILE DEVICE and scrolling STARNET. STARNET is the only social platform accessible to nearly every single online network stationed across the Omniverse. STARNET is a social platform that allows you to post or repost ONE PHOTO or GIF PER universal day Since this is a UNIVERSAL app, with the one day post restriction trillions of people are constantly uploading photos and gifs giving Val an absurd amount of content to doom-scroll through. This keeps her OCCUPIED when she is not on DUTY.
>The UNIVERSAL CLOCK is a TIMEZONE accommodating ‘some’ of the Omniverse. It is meant to give an overall time frame for solar systems, galaxies, and even whole universes. Unfortunately, time isn’t as still as we want it to be, meaning the UNIVERSAL CLOCK has no value to an abundance of galactic environments. It’s complicated, it's confusing, and whoever designed it was wasting their time.

>The wall your back is constantly pressed upon is your ART WALL. You lack a BOX SCREEN and a MAGNUM OPUS, so to match Finn’s energy you are creating a wallpaper on your side of the room of everything he’s ever drawn for you. He’s pretty egotistical as a lot of drawings just include him being superior to someone or something.
>You are not necessarily a fan of DRAWING as you don’t quite understand how to, but you appreciate the sentiment and craftsmanship Finn puts into every piece that he for some reason always gives to you.

>Although Finn doesn’t really enjoy working, you don’t mind it! You love the ADVENTURE and THRILL of exploring new worlds and environments. Maybe it has something to do with your FORCED MATURITY, but you love to LEARN and INDULGE IN ALL SORTS OF NEW CULTURES. You find COMFORT through the joys of others and how everyone can be connected while so far apart.
>You do like your days off though, and when you have to work multiple universal days in a row, the THRILL and EXCITMENT OF EXPLORING dwindles down fairly quickly. It might be withdrawals from a lack of STARNET… who knows.

[V] - Address Me!
>WOAH! Val is totally awesome and definitely the best. We could sit here all day and learn so much about how COURAGEOUS and BRAVE she is… but some attention seeker needs to ruin everything.
>Maybe if we ignore him he’ll back off?
>...ugh. He really is heartless.
>You are doomed to continue being the side character as we must now put all our attention towards this sad sack of shit.
>Maybe if we ignore him he’ll back off?

>Jokes aside, you’ve never seen him like this. Work usually gets him down in the dumps, but he seems to be more miserable than usual.
>The GROWING SHADOWS OF DESPAIR are a massive exaggeration by the way. Finn is very dramatic and everyone needs to know when he’s depressed.
>Awesome, genuinely awesome, look how BRAVE and COURAGEOUS Val is as she approaches the METAPHORICAL GROWING SHADOWS OF DESPAIR. She must actually care for her friend. It must be that HEART OF GOLD.
<VAL> Finnnnnnn, is everything alright? We aren’t scheduled to work these next few days, what’s botherin' you?

>The METAPHORICAL GROWING SHADOWS OF DESPAIR have vanished from the viewers eyes. Now, we can take Finn seriously.
>That was a joke. You can’t ever take this worthless piece of shit seriously. What could possibly even be troubling him–
<FINN> Do you think there’s more to our lives than this?
>That was a joke. You can’t ever take this worthless piece of shit seriously. What could possibly even be troubling him–
<FINN> Do you think there’s more to our lives than this?

>Oh.
>Oh fuck.
>BOSS has warned you about this potentially happening. You don’t know why you were WARNED, but you know it can’t be good.
>What’ll happen if you report this? What’ll happen if you DON’T?
>Oh fuck.
>BOSS has warned you about this potentially happening. You don’t know why you were WARNED, but you know it can’t be good.
>What’ll happen if you report this? What’ll happen if you DON’T?

<VAL> How could you even think that? We’re angels! We were destined to live this life.
<FINN> Destined to live what life? Val, I saw SOMETHING in the LIGHTBEAM. Something or someone I’ve never seen before!
<VAL> Okay…? What’s your point?
<FINN> I think this life we were “destined to live” is a sham! I had a memory of something outside this job. I think… I think we had lives before all of this!
<VAL> That makes no sense. We’ve been doing this for as long as we can remember. Maybe you just remembered somethin' you forgot.
<FINN> Exactly! Doing this for as long as we can remember! We weren’t born into this, were we? I don’t remember growing up doing this.

<FINN collects himself> Val, look I-I feel like I’ve been losing my mind these past few hours. I kept trying to convince myself that maybe it was a memory of an old job we went on, but something about that lost memory is burned into my brain. It doesn’t feel like I remembered something, but instead it’s like… I learned something?
<VAL groans> What did you even see?
<FINN> It looked like a person. My brain keeps telling me it was a girl. She had big eyes and… uhh and puffy hair.
<VAL> …I think you just saw me dude.
<FINN> No, I’m serious! What I saw in the LIGHTBEAM was something else! It has to be some sort of lost memory!
>Right when Finn shouted, ‘something’ echoed.
